The true meaning of concentration camp

I woke up this morning thinking about "Les Miserables" and running through the story in my mind and became quite tearful, and yeah, I guess I just woke up in an emotional sort of way, maybe because of a dream the memory of which faded away very quickly, but from the thoughts of "Les Mis", my mind just migrated straight to the situation in Israel - not only in Gaza, but on the West Bank, too, and all these years of hell these people have been made to endure and by the time I had to get up, I was an absolute emotional mess. It began with thoughts of a work of fiction based on a radical period of history and from those thoughts, I just fell into a current absolute well-documented reality like a dreamer gazing into the sky and falling into a deep hole that was virtually impossible to climb out of. And it hurts me to the core when I think of my fellow human beings, particularly the ones close to me who've surprised me by fervently attacked me for my own compassion for the Palestinian people, and I just can't understand how, how can anybody with any awareness of what's going on in Israel today not feel any compassion for those trapped, oppressed individuals, so many of whom are only innocent children who are living in constant terror, all because the Israeli government is committed to take that small, overpopulated piece of land from its rightful inhabitants and rebuild it into some kind of pie-in-the-sky Israeli wonderland? And all the while, we have these delusional Evangelical Christians supporting the action so that their enormously corrupted fairytale protagonists can come along and vindicate them for the iron-clad grip on willful ignorance they've held onto all these years. Yes, it is beyond saddening. It really is mortifying. And the whole world should see it. And current trends seem to be pointing toward more and more people seeing it, and that is a wonderful thing. But power resides, as far as this little nobody can tell, in the hands of the most deliriously insane people in the world and until those of us who see and feel clearly find the unified strength to unseat these seemingly terminally deluded monsters, can we end this at all? I do fear the worst, sad to say, but hope for the best. Ms. Martin, Ms. Khalifa, I have all the respect in the world for you both and count you among my heroes. More power to you both. Thank you for working so hard as you do to spread awareness of the terrible misuse of power we are seeing every day. One thing is for certain - the work you two are doing is helping to change minds, to restore compassion and clarity of vision to everyone fortunate enough to engage with your work.
